Huanglong Cave sits in the heart of the Wulingyuan World Natural Heritage Site in Zhangjiajie, Hunan. It is a key part of the UNESCO Global Geopark and one of the signature sights of the Wulingyuan National 5A Scenic Area. Your visit begins on the water — a boat ride along the underground "Xiangshui River" (about 2,820 m), where stalactites mirror the colored lights like a hidden world. You then continue on foot past the Dragon Palace Hall and the Labyrinth, about 2–3 hours in all. The cave holds a steady temperature and stays pleasant year-round. The "Sea-Calming Pillar" — a stalagmite 19.2 m tall yet only 10 cm wide at its narrowest, grown over more than 200,000 years — is the cave's most iconic geological wonder.
